Accidents don’t wait to happen, so be sure you are ready! Storm season has arrived with a bang this year and now is a great time to be thinking about your emergency action plan. Every household and  business should have an emergency action plan, addressing such emergencies as severe weather and fire.

The definition of emergency is “a serious, unexpected, and often dangerous situation requiring immediate action.” Having an emergency plan helps ensure you and your family know just want to do when disaster strikes.

The internet is full of resources to assist in creating a plan–see  below for a basic checklist.

  • Create and post a list of emergency telephone numbers (fire, police, ambulance, insurance agency, contractor)
  • Locate and determine exit points and routes from home
  • Determine safe spots inside and outside the home to meet in case of emergency/evacuation
  • Know how to stay in contact with one another and have back up plans in case of power loss
  • Know where and how to turn off water, gas, and electricity
  • Have a plan for your pets
  • Ensure your insurance is adequate and current
  • Know the best contractor in town to call : Capital Construction !
